About the Brain Injury Association of Tasmania

There is very little understanding or knowledge in the community about brain injury and the impact it has on individuals and families…

Our Vision
By 2010 the Brain Injury Association of Tasmania will be recognised for its work in increasing community awareness of acquired brain injury (ABI), and improving the quality of life for people living with ABI in Tasmania.

Our Purpose
The Brain Injury Association of Tasmania is the peak body for brain injury in Tasmania. BIAT is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation working for people living with acquired brain injury, their families and other stakeholders. Our mission is to:

  • Promote awareness and understanding of the impact of acquired brain injury to families, communities, and service providers through training, education and resources
  • Lobby to address systemic issues which impact on people living with ABI – both at state level and through membership for the national body, Brain Injury Australia (link).

Current Sources of Income
The Association receives re-current funding from the Motor Accident Insurance Board’s Injury and Prevention Foundation Charities Committee, and the Department of Health and Human Services (Disability Services)
