The hu2bi learning sequence has been developed in consultation with the Prinicpal Education Officer Health and Wellbeing and is compliant with Standard 5 of the Health and Wellbeing curriculum.
In this unit students will participate in the heads up 2 brain injury information session. Prior to this session students will investigate potential outcomes of high risk behaviours and the impact of certain lifestyle choices to the health and wellbeing of self and others.
In the heads up 2 brain injury session, students will learn about how the brain works and the causes, consequences, prevalence and permanency of acquired brain injury. They will also consider the long term impact of acquired brain injury through shared personal experiences from people living with or affected by brain injury.
Using this information, students will analyse their personal role in predicting short, medium and long term consequences of decisions they make. They will consider how their values and beliefs have been shaped over time and investigate and critically analyse strategies to promote resilience for self and others.
Students will challenge commonly held misconceptions associated with acquired brain injury in today’s society and research, investigate and evaluate local and national strategies/campaigns that promote safety and harm minimisation.
