Targeted at senior high/secondary students (Years 9-12), the goal of the HU2BI program is to influence
the attitudes and behaviour of young people to reduce their chances of sustaining a brain injury.

The program has been developed in consultation with the Principal Education Officer Health
and Wellbeing and is compliant with Standard 5 of the Health and Wellbeing curriculum.

Specifically the program aims to make young people more aware of:

  • the prevalence and causes of brain injury;
  • the long-term impact of brain injury on their lives and the lives of their families and friends;
  • ways in which the risk of incurring a brain injury can be minimised; and
  • commonly held misconceptions associateed with ABI in today's society.

a: In the HU2BI session, students will learn about how the brain works and the causes, consequences, prevalence and permanency of acquired brain injury (ABI). They will also consider the long-term impact of ABI through shared personal experiences from people living with, or affected by, brain injury.

a: Although we have worked to keep the cost of the program to a minimum and have some capacity to negotiate, teachers should be aware all program presenters have been trained and receive payment for each session they deliver.

Generally the program runs for between one to two hours and can be tailored to meet the school’s lesson structure.

To ensure students participating gain the maximum advantage from the program we recommend a maximum of 48 students (6 groups of 8 or 8 groups of 6) per HU2BI session.

The cost of a single session is $150 (+GST).  The cost of any additional sessions, run one after the other (ie before and after recess and/or before and after lunch), on the same day is an additional $100 (+ GST) per session.
